Q: What types of services do you offer?
A: I am qualified to offer academic coaching in all core subject areas, kindergarten through 8th grade, including some of the high school core subjects. Sessions can focus on academic acceleration, remediation, and digging for deeper meaning.
I provide academic coaching for both the student as well as the parent. Sometimes, just knowing how your child learns best is enough to create a better balance in the household. I can work with you to create this peaceful practice.
Q: Which other types of services do you offer?
A: I provide many levels of student and parental support. In addition to teaching the core subjects, I also offer STEAM activities that integrate science, technology, engineering, art, and math. I also provide parenal coaching to help reduce the stress and frustration many families are experiencing due to their children learning from home this year. Feel free to contact me for more informatin or refer to the What makes you different from other tutors? question below for more information about the services I offer.
Q: How do we get started?
A: You can schedule an appointment through the website, or contact me at Kellyann@home2schoolconnection.com. We will schedule a free consultation so we can create the academic plan that best fits your family's needs.
Q: How do I book an appointment?
A: Follow the Schedule an Appointment link on this page, select the service you are interested in booking, then follow the steps to schedule your appointment. You will receive an email shortly after booking your appointment. This email will contain a secure link to the Zoom room which will be opened at the time of your appointment. You will not be charged when you create your appointment.
Q: How many times a week should my child or I meet with you?
A: While I am available daily, weekly, or as needed, there is no one set answer for this question. After meeting for our free consultation, I will be able to help guide you in this decision.
Q: Do you offer package pricing?
A: Yes, I do offer package pricing. I offer several types of package pricing. Contact me to learn about a multiple child package as well as a referral discount. No families will be turned away due to finances.
Q: What does an academic coaching session look like?
A: I use a secure link to Zoom, giving me the ability to broadcast my screen so my students can see and interact with my whiteboard space. I begin each session with a quick conversation with the student to get an idea of their general mood and their stress level. This gives me a better understanding of how our session will go. I then move on to our academics. I assess the student's knowledge of the topic and determine an appropriate starting place. Through a dialogue, I work with the student to meet our goal for the day. A session is booked by the hour, however, if we run a little past our time slot there is no extra charge.
Q: How do you continue to provide support between sessions?
A: I provide on the spot support throughout the week through text, by phone, or through Zoom depending on the depth of the question. There are no extra costs for this level of support.
Q: How do I know what my child is learning?
A: After each session, I check in with the parent, either through Zoom or afterwards through text, offering a full report of our starting point and our ending point. I include any additional information I have evaluated such as learning style and the child's understanding and misconceptions. I provide a "next steps" for the parent and their child.
Q: Which payment methods do you accept?
A: I accept a variety of payments including PayPal, ApplePay, Credit Cards, Venmo, and Zelle. I can provide you with an invoice upon request.
Q: What kind of evaluation do you do to know in which areas of academics my child needs help?
A: Through conversations with the parent and their child, I get an understanding of the academic needs of the student. I then use various tools to evaluate the student's understanding and misconceptions of the skill. I can provide a more in-depth assessment as needed.
Q: What makes you different from other tutors?
A: I am different from a typical tutor because of the services I offer. A tutor will generally work with a child who has fallen behind their peers. While I offer this service too, I can provide a much more comprehensive education. My services include academic acceleration for those children who are performing ahead of their peers. I also provide individually tailored instruction for those children with gaps in their education. I will pertain to any 504 or IEP the child may have.
In addition, I provide STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) related activities. This could include doing science experiments and science fair projects, building robots and learning how to code, learning the art of sewing and quilting, T-shirt design, and graphic designing, videography, including Stop Motion, special effects, the use of green screens, and video editing to create a final product, just to name a few services.
Another service I provide which a typical tutor would not offer is parental coaching. I work with the parents to help identify the sources of stress and frustration in the household due to their child's academics, whether their child is learning in a classroom, through distance learning, or through homeschooling. I work with the parents to create a plan to bring peace into the household by helping them understand their child's learning style as well as the subjects they are learning. I provide guidance and a plan as to how to help their child with their school work, without the need for tears. How can I help your family?
